Thomas Duch ̌Mitchell was born in Philadelphia in 1791. He received his M.D. from the Medical Department of the University of Pennsylvania in 1812. Mitchell established private practice in Philadelphia, where he held the position of Physician to the Lazaretto (1813-1816).
